Experience Overview

Located just over an hour from Cape Town, the Cape Canopy Tour is situated in the scenic Elgin Valley, within CapeNature’s Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve—a designated World Heritage Site. This fully guided nature experience strongly emphasizes guest comfort and safety, with two trained facilitators accompanying each group to share fascinating insights about the endemic fynbos and local geology. 

Here is exactly how your 4½ to 5-hour adventure will unfold: 

• Base Camp Arrival: Arrive 15–30 minutes early to complete your digital sign-in. You can grab a great coffee, use the free Wi-Fi, or purchase last-minute supplies at the snack and merchandise shop before heading into your safety briefing and gear kit-up.
• The 4x4 Mountain Safari: Once geared up, you will hop onto a safari-style open-top vehicle for an exciting 30-minute 4x4 journey to the top of the mountain.
• Earning Your Wings: The slides start high in the mountains, over 1,000 meters above sea level. After a short walk in and a final safety briefing on the first platform, you'll get ready to fly from platform to platform.
• The Canopy Course: You will experience 11 thrilling zipline slides (some stretching over 300 meters) and 13 platforms built directly onto the cliffs high above the Riviersonderend Gorge. A truly unforgettable highlight is crossing a narrow sandstone ravine via a suspension bridge suspended high above a spectacular double waterfall.
• The Hike Out: After completing the course, you will start a 1 km walk out of the gorge, where the safari vehicle will be waiting to take you back down to base camp.

Critical Arrival & Logistical Instructions

• Arrival Notice: You are required to arrive at the venue strictly 30 minutes prior to your scheduled slot. This buffer is essential to handle mandatory check-in steps, including completing indemnity waivers, conducting safety briefings, and fitting harnesses. For example, if your session is booked for 10:00 AM, you must be on-site and ready by 9:30 AM.
• Location Warning: You must go straight to the Zipline location. Do not go to Maitland / Cape Xtreme's offices. You will be at the wrong location and you will miss your booking/forfeit your booking entirely (no refund/reschedule).
• Time Slot Availability: Your selected time slot is a preference and is not guaranteed at the time of submission. Once we receive your request/booking, we will check availability and confirm your slot. We will either send over your official confirmation or immediately contact you with alternative times or dates if your preferred slot is not available.

Inclusions & Exclusions

• ✅ What’s Included: Professional safety gear, safety training, 2 expert canopy facilitators, return 4x4 mountain reserve transport, 11 slides, 13 platforms, and a suspension bridge crossing. Groups are capped at exclusive sizes of 8 to 9 people.
• ❎ What’s Excluded: Round-trip transport (hotel pickup & drop off), meals, snacks, refreshments, the personalized souvenir video, and the compulsory reserve conservation fee of R100 per person (which is calculated and added during checkout).

What to Wear & Bring

• Clothing: Comfortable, practical sportswear. Mountain weather is highly unpredictable, so warm clothes are essential to have on hand. Very short shorts are highly impractical and uncomfortable under tight harness leg-straps. Rain jackets are strongly advised if drizzle is forecasted.
• Footwear: Closed-toe, comfortable footwear with good grip. Absolutely no slip-on shoes or sandals are permitted, as they can easily fall off during the activity.
• Gear & Protection: Sunblock and a brimmed hat. You may bring a small, lightweight backpack.
• Electronics: Mobile phones and cameras are allowed on the lines entirely at your own risk.
• Base Camp Facilities: The staging area features free Wi-Fi, premium coffee, and a small snack and merchandise shop. Please note there is no full-scale restaurant on-site, and it is a completely cashless environment (all major credit and debit cards are accepted).

Safety Rules & Participant Requirements

• Indemnity Waivers: All participants must sign on-site safety waivers/indemnity to partake in the activity. Guests under 18 years old require a parent or legal guardian to sign on their behalf.
• Age Limits: The minimum age to participate is 5 years old. Babies or infants are strictly prohibited, even if secured in a kangaroo pouch.
• Children & Tandem Rules: Children must be able to fit securely into specialized child harnesses. Children between the ages of 5 and 9 years old must ride in tandem with a certified guide; they are strictly prohibited from riding tandem with their parents. Since a maximum of 2 guide-tandems are permitted per departure group, you must notify us via email in advance. Note that any guest requiring a tandem must weigh less than 50 kg for safety reasons.
• Weight & Harness Restrictions: The maximum weight limit is 120 kg.
  The restriction is primarily imposed by the physical circumference of the safety harness straps rather than absolute weight. If a participant weighs slightly more than 120 kg but is fit and in good shape, they will likely fit comfortably and can participate; this can however only be determined on site.
• Physical Fitness Profile: This is an active adventure that demands a moderate level of fitness, alongside core and upper body strength. After completing the final zipline, all participants must execute a mandatory 1 km hike up and out of the gorge to reach the return safari vehicle.
• Pregnancy Policy: Due to the bumpy nature of the 4x4 mountain transit trail, this canopy tour is strictly closed to expectant mothers.
• Substance Restrictions: Alcohol is strictly banned on or before the tour. Operators enforce a rigid zero-tolerance drinking policy and reserve the right to bar any guest suspected of consumption without a refund.

Late Arrival & No Show Policy (Please Read)

Because transport vehicles inside the reserve run on a rigid, logistically optimized rotation schedule, timeliness is vital. It is logistically impossible for guides to hold vehicles for late arrivals as it has a huge knock-on effect on guests waiting to be picked up in the mountain again.

• Arrival Time: You must arrive at the base camp at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled tour slot to complete digital sign-in, gear fittings, and your initial safety briefing.
• Lateness Consequences: The tour starts promptly, and the guides cannot accommodate late arrivals. Once the safety briefing has begun, you will not be allowed to join the group and you will have MISSED/FORFEITED your tour. (it is not possible to accommodate refunds or reschedules for missed tours, please refer to our cancellation policy for more details).
• Cape Town Transit Warning: If you are driving from Cape Town, please factor an extra 30 to 45 minutes on top of Google Maps projections. Power outages or unexpected highway incidents regularly cause severe traffic backlogs which could impact your travel time (we do not want you to miss your tour).

Weather Policy

• All-Weather Operations: Zipline tours operate normally in most typical weather conditions, including mild rain.
• Operator Cancellations: High-altitude mountain forecasts are monitored closely. If extreme weather conditions compromise client safety, the operator reserves the right to cancel, offering a full refund or a reschedule. While the aim is to give notice in advance, rapid mountain shifts mean decisions are sometimes finalized on the day.
• Customer-Initiated Weather Shifts: If you choose to cancel or reschedule because of forecasted potential weather, you must notify the office at least 24 hours prior to your tour time. Any changes requested within less than 24 hours are subject to full cancellation fees unless the operator cancels the slot.
• Optional Souvenir Video: When logistically possible and where conditions allow, the guides will capture a personalized video of your experience. This is not included in the baseline tour fee and can be purchased as an optional digital download starting from R100 per person.

Cancellation / Refund Policy

GENERAL/STANDARD CANCELLATION POLICY
Please be advised that the cancellation fee & refund percentage (%) is applicable to the TOTAL tour/activity price LESS a less 5% transaction fee in the case of online or POS card transactions made for payment. This represents a direct bank processing cost and is not a revenue-generating charge.

Cancellation or changes:

• 15 days or more prior to tour date = 100% Refund
• 14-4 days prior to tour date = 50% Refund
• 3-0 days prior to tour date, late arrivals or “NO-SHOWS” = 0%/No Refund

❗️Late arrivals and/or no-shows for a tour/activity/time slot, regardless of the reason, unfortunately forfeit the full booking. Similar to booking an airline ticket; the plane will not wait for any passenger that is late. Please ensure you are on time for your booking.
❗️All transaction/transfer fees and/or forex conversion costs charged by the banks during the refund process will be billed to you (the client/booking holder)
❗️Refund and credit values are calculated in our local ZAR (South African Rand) currency. Transaction values in your own currency could be affected due to bank fees and currency exchange fluctuations.
